Marketing & Communications Specialist

This organisation is the leading professional membership body for optometrists in Australia, representing over 85% of registered practitioners nationwide. It is dedicated to supporting its members with vital services, resources, and advocacy to help them excel in the dynamic and evolving field of optometry.


The Role

In this role, you’ll play a key part in enhancing member engagement and promoting the value of the services and events. Your work will involve creating compelling written, visual and digital content and coordinating member communications. You’ll also contribute to our social media presence and help reinforce the organisation brand.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of communications across multiple channels, including eDM, SMS, social media and websites.
  • Promote conferences, events, tools and resources to members to aid in membership satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure effective promotion and evaluate the success of communication strategies and campaigns.
  • Contribute to the success of the Promote unit by managing assigned responsibilities, supporting team members and participating in planning discussions.

Success in this role requires not only strong skills and expertise but also alignment with the core values of the organisation - integrity, respect and teamwork. You are a positive and collaborative individual who contributes to a supportive and dynamic work culture, helping to ensure that the team remains strong and cohesive.


To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Experience in marketing and communications (experience within a membership organisation is an advantage but not essential).
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to create engaging content across multiple digital channels.
  • Experience in digital platforms like MailChimp, WordPress and social media tools or similar.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is an advantage but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the health sector, particularly in optometry, is an advantage but not essential.
