The Role

As the Fundraising & Community Engagement Officer, you will play a key role in strengthening Melbourne Legacy’s donor and community fundraising initiatives. Working closely with individual donors, community fundraisers, and state partners, you will help drive fundraising efforts that directly support families in need.


Reporting to the Individual Giving Team Leader, key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to donor and supporter enquiries (phone and email) in a timely manner
  • Updating and managing donor records, and processing donations using Salesforce
  • Supporting donor engagement programs, including Regular Giving and Major Donor initiatives
  • Developing and fostering relationships with community fundraisers and partner organisations to enhance local fundraising efforts
  • Coordinating and organising defence community and other fundraising events
  • Providing support for major fundraising campaigns, including Legacy Week and the Legacy Challenge
  • Assisting with volunteer and stakeholder coordination for fundraising initiatives

Key Selection Criteria

This role would suit a motivated, relationship-driven fundraiser with a passion for community engagement and giving back to the community. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in fundraising, donor relations, or community partnerships.


  • Tertiary qualifications in fundraising, marketing, or a community-related field (preferred)
  • Proven experience in community or peer-to-peer fundraising, donor engagement, or community relations
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with donors, sponsors, and fundraising partners
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and fundraising platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • A sound knowledge of the not-for-profit sector desirable
  • A passion for the not-for-profit sector and commitment to ethical fundraising practices
  • Ability to undergo a national police check and Working with Children Check
