The Role

In this role, you’ll play a key part in providing accurate and timely financial reports across 4 different legal entities, supporting the organisations in sound financial decision making.


Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer to provide effective financial management and administration, your key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all financial transactions are consistent with statutory and Organisation objectives by maintaining all accounting systems and records and making recommendations for improvement where appropriate
  • Producing timely and accurate monthly reports, including profit and loss, balance sheet and other financial statements required
  • Supporting the audit process by providing final reconciled accounts and associated information to the audit firm
  • Ensuring Optometry Australia maintains its budgeted cashflow by ensuring the accurate and timely payment of all accounts, invoicing of accounts receivable and maintenance of all bank accounts, ensuring that all surplus trading funds are invested in accordance with the Investment and Reserve Policy
  • Ensuring minimisation of bad debts by maintaining trading terms and ensuring the follow up any accounts which may have fallen outside of trading terms
  • Accurate and timely processing of wages and superannuation, and maintenance of employee records
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and statutory requirements, including the lodgement and payment of all federal and state taxes
  • Completion of annual budget and half yearly forecast, and providing final budgets to line-managers, and CEO within allocated timeframe
  • Providing specialist advice and guidance to the CFO, and ensuring CFO is aware of issues related to financial management
  • Assisting with special project or other duties as required by the CFO

To excel in this role, you will require:

  • Experience in a similar financial management or accounting role
  • Demonstrated knowledge in MYOB, XERO and Employment Hero
  • Demonstrated skills in monitoring and maintaining financial records
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Capacity to identify areas of improvement of processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills across the organisation from staff members through to Board Directors.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of the not-for-profit or health sector, particularly in optometry, is an advantage but not essential.
